RGS Strategic Planning Retreat

April 11, 2008

8:30am-5:00pm

SUMMARY OF APRIL 11TH RETREAT

The Division of Research and Graduate Studies will hold a strategic planning retreat on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 8:30am-5:00pm, in Room 244 of Mendenhall Student Center.  Following are some links to additional documents and information that can help interested parties prepare for the meeting.

In March and April of 2007, shortly after the adoption of ECU’s new University Strategic Plan by the Board of Trustees, an internal working group developed a draft strategic plan for Research and Graduate Studies.

In May of 2007, Vice Chancellor Mageean presented to the Chancellor’s Cabinet a slide show of the Division's draft plan. This document, however, did not fully address the needs of graduate education or economic development.

During the summer of 2007, Ted Morris, recently recruited as Associate Vice Chancellor of Economic Development, led a working group from his unit that prepared a draft strategic plan for the Office of Economic Development.

Recognizing the need to combine the efforts of these two groups, as well as the need to engage the broader campus community, on 18 December 2007 the Division of Research and Graduate Studies held an internal planning retreat facilitated by Bruce Flye at which participants began identifying strategic issues, obstacles to our goals, and strategies that might help us overcome these obstacles. The activities of the day are documented in this slide show.

The results of the day-long retreat are summarized in this file.

A small group, including Paul Gemperline, Ted Morris, Patrick Pellicane, and Bruce Flye, continued to meet in January and February of 2008 to develop a follow-up plan, which can be found on this diagram and agenda for the 11 April retreat.

Inquiries about this meeting may be directed to Associate VC Paul Gemperline at 328-9479.
